Walldogs are professional artists that have been recognized in numerous communities by state and local leaders primarily for their mural work. The Walldog movement began in Allerton, Iowa in 1993 when Nancy B. Bennett hosted sign artists from the US and Canada to create community murals over a long weekend. This movement has since spread from Lodi, CA to Mars, PA in the United States Canada and Australia. The Walldogs also did wayfinding signage and themes for the Cornwall, Ontario, Canada County Fair. Walldogs have been recognized by cities, states, senators, and governors and have had the Kentucky Colonel honor bestowed on them. Walldog Rendezvous, Belvidere, IL received the Illinois Art Council's 1997 Governor's Award for the Arts, the Illinois Governor's Conference on Tourism Award for city-wide promotional campaigns and the official designation from Gov. Jim Edgar as Illinois' City of Murals. Additionally, many participating communities have won Mainstreet Design Awards and have received numerous official designations.
